Wake on LAN question using Usb Adapter?
Hello everyone,
I have a laptop that is remotely connected and I want to be able to power it on remotely but the BIOS doesn't have Wake on LAN setting. It does have a Wake on USB option and I was wondering if a Hi-Speed Usb 2.0 to Fast Ethernet Adapter adapter (Male Plug is USB) would work if I connected from another computer using the internet? Thanks
First of all, you have to make sure that your USB card can support that feature. Some of them don't . Second, the easiest part is to give it a try. First shut down your computer, while the Wake on USB is active in your bios. Then look to see if your USB Network card is still powered / activated. Be aware that if your laptop is not plugged on a power source, or if the battery is low, it might not be activated. Then try to wake your computer remotely. Some router will provide you with an option in the menu. In other case, you will need the mac address and a software (that you can download on internet).
