PC accessories with Mac (Keyboard & Mouse)?

II'm finally trying a Mac Mini but only have windows equipment.
Basically I need to setup my mac (the first run) and once in to the system i can connect wireless accessories. But before then i have no way of typing or moving the cursor.

I'm using a Logitech DiNovo Edge Wireless Bluetooth keyboard with my Mac Mini.

To set up the Bluetooth connection, I borrowed a USB Windows PC keyboard and mouse from a friend. (Yes, a Windows keyboard will work. The Windows key becomes the Apple Cloverleaf key, and the ALT key becomes the Apple Options key).

With the Usb Keyboard and mouse, I selected Bluetooth in System Preferences and set it up so it synchronizes with my DiNovo Edge. After that's done, I disconnected the USB keyboard and mouse and all is good.

I like my DiNovo Edge MUCH better than the Apple keyboard and mighty mouse. That's because the DiNovo Edge comes with a recharger cradle, and since it has a trackpad, there is no mouse to need extra batteries.

Dell Xg900 Keyboard Cleaning And Maintaining Guide

Power down the laptop after removing any media (CDs, DVDs, flash drives etc) from it. Also detach the Power Cord and any peripherals. Keep the laptop screen up so you can access the Dell Laptop keyboard. Blow compressed air around all the keys to dislodge any particles stuck under them. Gently hold the laptop over a trash can with the Dell XG900 Keyboard facing sideways and then down, so that any remaining particles can fall off.
Wipe the periphery of the Dell XG900 Keyboard (i.e., the mouse pad and the area that doesn't have any keys on it) with the damp cloth, paying particular attention to the areas that are especially dirty. Moisten and wring cloth in the cleaning solution (alcohol or water) several times if needed, while doing this.
Next, work on the Dell XG900 Keyboard keys themselves. Moisten and wring the cloth as above, and then use a finger with the damp cloth over it to scrub each key one at a time. As the cloth gets dirty, put a clean part of the cloth over the finger and continue cleaning. One sure way to get your Dell Laptop Keyboard very dirty is to eat with your fingers and type at the same time. It's best to not do both simultaneously, or at least to thoroughly wipe your fingers every time you type while eating.
Spray compressed air along the keys carefully until covering each one. Dust and particles will most likely fly out. Stay out of the direction of the dust. Continue to do this step until you feel that all of the dust and filth is gone or until you see no more coming out of the computer Dell XG900 Keyboard.

How to remove a laptop keyboard from your notebook

We all know that laptops from different manufacturers are very different from each other, and the difference between two models from the same manufacturer might be too much to say the least. The process showcased below is for a Dell Latitude D630 model. Before undertaking this project all by yourself, it is recommended that you go through the manual provided by the manufacturer or do so once or twice in presense of an authorized technical person.

Removing the Dell Latitude D630 battery(http://www.sunvalleyus.com/DellBattery/Latitude-D630-series.html) of a your Dell Laptop is necessary if it is old or broken. The removal of the Dell Keyboard is also done for other fixture purposes. There are essential procedures to follow in the removal of the laptop’s keyboard. These procedures are necessary to avoid damaging the laptop during the process. There are also different kinds and models of laptops. Different laptop manufacturers have different ways of placing the keyboard on the system board. These methods of removing the keyboard may not be applicable or somehow different to other brands of laptops.

Things You'll Need
• A laptop
• A screw driver of appropriate specification
• Light colored cloth or polythene

Steps on laptop keyboard removing:

1 Turn off the laptop if it is running. Removing the keyboard while the laptop is running may cause accidents.
2 Determine the location of the keyboard cover. This is a plate for covering the screws of the keyboard. The keyboard cover usually contains LED lights indicating if the laptop is running or charging. It is commonly located on the top of the keyboard and just below the monitor.
3 You can remove the cover by using a flathead screwdriver. Place the screwdriver in the right slot. Use the screwdriver as a lever to pull up the keyboard cover. There may be cases when the cover is attached to the hinge cover. There are screws attaching the keyboard cover to the hinge cover. Unfasten each screw at the back of the computer. Do this before pulling up the cover with the use of flathead screwdriver.
4 The screws holding the keyboard on the holding board will be visible after removing the cover. There may be 3 to 4 screws holding the keyboard in place. Carefully remove each screw using the screwdriver. Place these screws into different containers assigned for each of the screw slot. This is because sometimes, the screws are different in size from one another.
5 Gently lift the keyboard in the direction of the laptop screen. This is to view all the wires and cable connected to the keyboard and the system board.
6 Properly remove the Data Cable from the motherboard. Do this by gently pulling on the Cable Plug in a vertical direction.
7 Look for other wires attaching the keyboard to the laptop after removing the data cable. Remove these other wires properly from the system board.
8 Lift the keyboard from the laptop completely. Make sure there are no wires connecting the keyboard and the system board before completely removing the keyboard

Please pay attention to the following tips when removing it from your dell notebook.
• Be careful while removing the bezel else you might end up making dents on your laptop surface.
• Use a light colored polythene or cloth to keep all the fasteners such that they are easily accessible to you.
• Pull off the keyboard connecting cable gently.

Where can I find a replacement laptop keyboard from a company with a good rep?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop and need a replacement keyboard. Yesterday I spilled some liquid on it and it shorted out (thank God nothing got in the internals).

I had the same problem with my Acer Laptop, one of my keys came off and wouldn't stay back in place (quite annoying). Thankfully it was under warranty and Acer folks offered to fix it free of charge. Unfortunately, since that's not the same case as you, I guess you can go for one of the following two options:

1. Call up Dell and ask them if they have an authorized repairs centre. Acer told me about one which would do the job within 2 to 3 days but would charge between 60 to 70 Euros. But anyway, who else would be a company with a good reputation than an authorized service centre? Laptop manufacturers train these people before authorizing them.

2. On the other hand, while I was frustrated with my keyboard, I looked up on Google for my laptop's spares and found many wholesellers selling spare parts. Your laptop's keyboard model number is: UW739 in which case I got the following results:

Most of these spares are taken out of old laptops that had internal problems. So there's no company with a good repute besides ones that offer you a warranty and a good cosmetic condition of the product. In which case, I'd recommend:

If your husband is an engineer, I figure he'd be able to fix the keyboard in for you. There's just one screw on the bottom of the laptop or maybe two, which unmount your existing keyboard and let you take it off. Once you've got it off, attach the new one's cable onto the mainboard and fix the screws on the base of your laptop to hold your keyboard back in place.
